Tip Speaking Truth to Love

When I feel badly, I have the urge to keep my sad feelings and self-harm thoughts private. I want to shield those I love from this depression that takes so much out of me. I say, "I'm fine, thanks!," but my facial expressions and behaviors show my true feelings. By attempting to hide my depression behind lies, I inadvertently lose the trust of my supporters. I find it helpful to remind myself, "I would rather be seen as trustworthy and honest than agreeable." Speak truth to love.
